When men began to increase on earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God (b’nei ha’elohim) saw the daughters of men (b’not ha’adam) and how beautiful they were and they took women for themselves from among all they chose. “I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.” (Genesis 19:6). [Lot tells the Sodomites:] Do not do this thing [sexually abuse my guests] because it is wicked in the eyes of the Holy One, Blessed be He, as it says: “How can I do this great wickedness (and sin against God).” God likewise warns the sons of Noah, as it says, “and shall cling unto his wife and become one flesh,” and not with a man, for they cannot be made one flesh. Whenever love depends upon something and it passes, then the love passes away too. But if love does not depend upon some ulterior interest then the love will never pass away. What is an example of the love which depended upon some material advantage? That of Amnon for Tamar. And what is an example of the love which did not depend upon some ulterior interest? That of David and Jonathan. The people of Sodom have no portion in the world to come and do not live in the world to come, as it is written: “And the people of Sodom are evil and sinful" - in this world; "before God exceedingly" - in the the world to come [meaning they will not be "before God' in the world to come.]. Another interpretation: "Evil" - each man to his fellow [in matters of justice]; "and sinful" - by sexual transgression; "before God" - with idolatry; "exceedingly" - and murder.
